                                                      Vertebrates II

A fish is an aquatic, cold-blooded vertebrate that breathes using gills.  They are covered in scales and use fins and a tail to move through water.

Amphibians are cold-blooded vertebrates, which means their body temperature depends on their surroundings. They spend their childhood life under water and breathing through gills, while their adult life is spent on land, where they breathe using lungs. They have a smooth, naked skin with mucous glands, which they use to keep their bodies moist.

Reptiles are cold-blooded vertebrates with dry skin, covered in scales.  Many of them have legs (lizards, dragons, turtles and alligators), some of them lack legs (snakes), and some of them even have a shell (turtles). All of them live on land and breathe using lungs.

Birds are warm-blooded vertebrates covered in feathers. Even though all of them have wings, many of them are unable to fly. They hatch from eggs and possess a beak, a pair of wings and a pair of legs. All of them communicate through songs.

Mammals are warm-blooded vertebrates covered in fur or hair. Mammals can be found on land, air or any body of water, so they can either have legs, fins and even wings! All of them give birth to their children and feed them with milk until they are able to hunt on their own.
